A pulley turning tool is a cutting tool specifically designed for machining the outer diameter, face, grooves, and chamfers of pulleys on conventional or CNC lathes. It is commonly made of high-speed steel (HSS) or carbide to suit different pulley materials such as cast iron, cast steel, or aluminum alloys. The cutting edge is often shaped as a form tool corresponding to the groove profile (e.g., V-type or U-type), allowing the complete groove geometry to be finished in a single pass, ensuring proper groove angle, depth, and surface finish for reliable belt transmission. To improve machining efficiency and tool life, modern pulley turning tools frequently use coated carbide grades and indexable insert designs, enabling quick insert replacement and reducing tool consumption.
